Ramblings From the Editor!

Get ready my brothers for the great and fulfilling bi-annual event that we have all been looking forward to for the last 2 years.

The reunion is coming, huzzah, huzzah! Old salts from all over this vast country of ours will be pulling out seabags, trying to fit big bellies into old uniforms and going to photo albums to try to remember names of old shipmates and pals from oh so many years ago!!!

Who will be there? Bubba with his Santa Claus beard? Frank "Goat" Lydell, somewhat civilized now and master of the last reunion? How about Captain Jack, the now famous author? Maybe we'll hear the booming laughter of Sarge echoing the halls again! Will Tex be able to hitch a ride? Will Captain "Bud" honor us with his presence? Maybe we'll catch the Greek's accent bouncing off the walls, or long, tall, Burleson with feisty little Ruby, his wife of so many years.

So many others, like Gerry Cartwright, Captain Jay, Larry Hand, our illustrious COB Willy! Maybe Jack Hunter will show, or Sam with his Bubba stick, McGinnis might show with the glint in his eye, and Nellie of course, with his Arizona tan, or Bereznay, or Blanchard, or Bundang of course. On Carleson and Campbell, and Cleland and Cole. And the most famous reindeer of all..........

Sorry! I got carried away!!

Congratulations to our Captain Jack O'Connell on his success as a budding author!! We wish him the best in his endeavors!

"The attached book review covers The Effectiveness of Airpower in the 20th Century, Book Three (1945 - 2000), and makes very nice reading for me as an author.  I published the second book, Book One (1914 - 1939) in May of this year, and Book Two (1939 - 1945) is at the publisher now.  We still have another round of proofs to do but it ought to be in print in six weeks or so.  The three volumes started as one very long, over 900 page book, and the effort goes back some 12 - 15 years.  It has kept me off the street corners and out of the pool halls for quite a while.

Jack O'Connell"

Shipmates, I have learned that there are the unclaimed cremated remains of forgotten veterans sitting on mortuary shelves across the land.

A friend has introduced me to a new organization called the "Missing in America Project." This organization was founded to locate, identify and arrange for burial, with honors, those veterans who have been cremated and left to gather dust on mortuary shelves. There are vets who have been there for decades! This is just disgraceful! How'd you like to be stuck sitting on shelf with nobody to care about you?  MIAP can use a few good men/women to help. Please visit their website at www.miap.us for more information.

Many thanks to this months "Booster Club" supporters (the ones I can remember)

This month we proudly present:

Ta Da!!!! The One, The Only....

DOUG BURLESON!!!!
Laying claim that he was not recognized for his donation!!

"I paid my dues!!" Burleson states! "And I get no respect for it!"

Burleson, also know as "Stanley, and/or  "Long tall Jones," gave this editor a blistering phone call. "Everyone gets their name in the newsletter except me," Burleson screamed! "I demand my rights as a card carrying son of Spinax!!"

The editor apologized to Mr. Burleson, but also goes on record as saying "A dollar bill is not considered to be a real donation!"

Mr. Burleson looking suave and debonair on the island of Oahu in 1965 before we left for parts unknown!

Mr. Burleson is also the publisher of a non-selling book about Submariners, titled "What, Are They Nuts??"
