At a little past six this evening she slipped off very gently...no more
pain and discomfort. The lovely rose I plucked from Norway left us for a
place where God's truly good people go. She was born in Oslo, in Nazi
occupied Norway, September 16th 1941...Solveig Elise Nordvik a
twin...She graduated from the University of Oslo in ceramic design and
engineering...came to the United States under a program called the
Experience in International Living....where we met, fell desperately in
love, got engaged and she returned while I worked for a year as a
Statistical Draftsman doing logrithmic projections for the International
Monetary Fund (International Financial Statistics (IFS)). I worked until
I had saved up enough to go to Norway marry her (in double wedding
ceremony with twin sister Karin, who married Helge Strom-Olsen) and
bring her home. No two people loved each other more deeply and we had
forty absolutely wonderful years...that we celebrated this past summer.
I will miss her every minute of every day...she was my life...my reason
for living...my best friend...my lover...and the best thing that ever
happened to me. Life will be a struggle and my sun will never shine as
bright. I loved her so...and she returned that love...gave me two
wonderful daughters resulting in three terrific grandchildren. She loved
you wonderful gentlemen and ladies and referred to you as "my
submariners". One of her proudest moments came when the Northern
Virginia Base conferred an Associate Members status on her. Thank each
and every one of you for all your kindness and support. Your considerate
concern and outpouring of love and affection made her last days here on
earth far more meaningful than you will ever know. She was amazed at how
you fantastic people embraced her. I miss her already and I know in the
days to come her loss will overwhelm me. Please don't leave me
shipmates, I really need you. Damn I hurt tonight....DEX
