After SPINAX. Jack Hunter, Lt., 1964-1966 After leaving Spinax in 1966, I went to the USS Albacore (SS 569) in Portsmouth, NH and served at one time or other as Supply, Food Services, First Lieutenant, Communications, and Operations Officer. Following Albacore, I returned to San Diego and was the Ops/Navigator on USS Medregal (SS 480) until her decommissioning in 1970. Back to the east coast and a tour as an instructor in the Weapons Department at Submarine School. Then a four years on the staff of COMSUBLANT as the Mk 48 Torpedo Project Officer/Fire Control Officer. A two year tour as the CO of West Milton (ARD 7) in Groton was followed by a final two year tour as the Tactical Systems/Weapons Officer at COMSUBDEVRON 12 in Groton. Retiring as a Lieutenant Commander in 1980, I moved to Middletown, RI and worked as a defense contractor for Analysis & Technology, Inc. at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, RI. My area of expertise was in submarine torpedoes and missiles. I went part-time-on-call at A&T in January 1998 and have been trying to retire-retire ever since. I think 2000 may be the year! With spare time on my hands, I have gone back to scratch-building flying (sometimes) model planes and boats. I am a Red Cross volunteer at the Naval Ambulatory Care Center (fancy name for the out patient clinic) here in Newport and hold a couple of positions at our church. Our son and daughter and their families are within several hours driving time from us. From time to time my wife Ellie gets the better of me and we go traveling. Looking forward to a SPINAX reunion.
