Since SPINAX.. Bob Larsen (Pecos), TM2(SS), 1963-1966
After leaving SPINAX, he was assigned to the Defense Language Institute, Washington, D.C. for a total immersion (appropriate for a submariner) course in Turkish. Upon completion, he and his family went to Ankara, Turkey as a NATO representative and submarine advisor to the Turkish Naval Headquarters for three years. This was...wait! That's not me. This is Captain Davis' bio. Oh well, It just seemed somehow, so much more exciting than mine. Sigh! Here I am...After leaving Spinax in 1966, I returned home to San Jose, CA. and got a job as an artist for a small publishing company. I worked there for a year or so until I got layed off. Artist jobs were few and far between so I took a job at the local Can company. Hating to be in a job with a limited future I bit the bullet and went back to college. A couple of years there and I was offered a job as Art Director at Creative Publications, a budding children's book publishing company. I spent 5 good years there and watched the company grow into a major publisher before I got antsy and decided to move on. I then entered the free-lance world and tried my hardest to develop a comic strip. Ten years later I gave it up and went to work for Lockheed Martin Missiles and Space in Sunnyvale Ca. I spent 15 years there as a commercial/computer artist before being surplused in 1998 (grrrrrr). I am back to free-lancing now and am also spending my mornings daytrading stock. The bad part of my life is that I never married. I was engaged in the late 70's but she was killed and somehow I never found another one that I wanted to settle down with. Well, that is my life, good and bad, in a nutshell. A lot left out of course. My journey to Denmark in early 70's to find my roots, my conversion to Buddhism in the 80's, my nephew following in my footsteps and becoming a boomer sailor, my astonishment at discovering that no, I wasn't the only ex-sailor that missed the old Spinax. Here's to good days still ahead! Pecos (roblarsen@home.com)
