Jack Thormahlen’s Bio – October 1, 2007 I was on the Spinax from February 1968 till October 1969. After a short leave I was ordered to the Bonefish SS-582 which was out of Pearl back then. As you can see by the “Then” and “Now” pics, I weigh a little bit more now than then. In June 1970 I was discharged through the early out program and returned to Dallas, Texas where I began my career in the Electric Utility Industry working for Dallas Power and Light Co. My experience in the Navy Submarines as an EM got me the job. On January 17, 1971 I married my wife. Now almost 37 years later we have two children, thirteen grands and one great-grand. We just love the grands and great grand, especially since we can send them home at the end of the day or weekend. In September 1971, I began my college education which was only to get my VA education benefits, $$$. Due to the Dean of Engineering, a Mechanical Engineer, and a few others’ influence, I pursued a BSEE degree. It took eight years to complete my degree, but we’ve never regretted it!!! My beautiful wife raised the kids while I worked full time and went to school, followed me through five different electric utilities from Texas to Montana and back again…and I was going to settle down in one spot after leaving the Navy. What a woman!!! We are currently in Austin getting things ready for retirement, maybe 5 years away. If any of you shipmates are ever in the Austin, Texas area, PLEASE EMAIL ME AHEAD OF TIME! and we will get together while you are here. HAPPY CRUSIN'!! See you at the reunion!!
