Radio Room
Larry Hand
The Radio Room: About
10ft by 6 ft with two operating positions outboard. as you
enter the main high frequency transmitter sat on the right.
On the left was the Ultra high frequency transceiver, next
to that was a seconday HF. transceiver.
Above the operating
positions were two HF receivers and one VLF receiver, this
was how we received all the information from SUBLANT and
anyother navy offices or headquarters. Patch panels and
antenna cables filled any left over space.
During a shipyard stay we
managed to have Formica and CRS covered operating positions
with top of the line IBM Selectric typewriters. (the barter
system was used). With all the equipment and available
space, there was room to get in, turn around and get out. I
am sure I have left out some items but after 30 some years
the memory bank is slightly faulty.
