SEPT. 1999 REUNION RENO, NV. The first ever reunion of the USS Spinax SSR / SS- 489 was held at the Peppermill Hotel and Casino in Reno Nv. on Sept. 24th, 1999. It was in conjunction with the " United States Submarine Veterans Inc." Nat'l Convention. The response to the first ever reunion can't be called anything but great !! This great ship sailed the world's sea's from 1947 to 1969 and part of all those crew members were there. What made this reunion a lot of fun for everybody, was seeing one another again. For the SSR crew, it had been forty plus years. Us SS guys 30 plus years. Telling old sea stories was fun and seeing people laugh was a big hit with everyone. There were about an even mix between the two types of crew's, but you would not have noticed it. Everyone had so much fun looking at all the photo's everyone came with. There were about 40 ex-crew members, not bad for the first time ?? With wife's and guest, the total came to about 64 people. The Peppermill gave us a meeting room ( at no charge ) from 1100 to 1600 with lunch served at 1230. After lunch, everyone stood one at a time, and said their name and where they were from. Even had some time for everyone to get up and tell a story or two ! I can't tell you how much fun I had putting this reunion together, It was worth every cent just being a part of it and watching everyone else have a ball !!
