The Movie Stars Jack Hunter (Lt) Following our '64-'65 overhaul at Hunters Point shipyard, Spinax got underway for a combination bay trial (a kind of surfaced systems shakedown) and visitors cruise. Kay Livingston, the young lady who posed as Miss March in "The Great Playboy Caper" was aboard as a guest of Captain Davis. Lt. Larry Lubbs was the Officer of the Deck and the word was let slip to the guests, which included a large number of young people, that Larry was a reservist on active duty with us and that he was a big tv star with the name of 'Bix Baxter" or something similar. Kay was topside just aft of the bridge and she played the part of a visiting movie star who knew Larry. As curious guests began to crowd the bridge, the Captain asked Larry when his new series was beginning. Larry tossed the ball to Kay and the two of them just enchanted all the eager guests as their story grew. It was beautiful to watch and the Captain and the lookouts had a tough time keeping straight faces. Many guests, especially the young ladies, even asked Larry for his autograph as they said goodbye at the brow later. --- Jack Hunter (Lt) <hunter5982@earthlink.net>
